After such nice weather for the first 3/4 of October, one would say that reality was bound to catch up with us. Well, reality is about to slap us across the face with what will likely be a damaging nor'easter Tuesday and Wednesday this week.

With damaging wind as the main threat, a major nor'easter will form off the coast and loop back to the NW before finally exiting to the east. Below is an animation of what that will look like. As seen in the forecast above, winds 60-70mph can be expected at the shore, with widespread gusts over 50mph for all of Eastern New England. With fully leaved trees in many places, this has the potential to do major tree and power outage damage.

While the winds will likely be the big story, there is a flood watch posted for 2-5" of rain, which could cause street and basement flooding. Here is one models depiction of total precip forecast. 2-4" of rain will be widespread, with isolated amounts 5-6".

Furthermore, even though tides are astronomically low, and thankfully they are because if not this would be a much more significant problem, with massive waves and persistent onshore flow, we are likely to see some coastal flooding, especially in the most vulnerable areas.

TIMING: The worst of the impacts will likely be felt Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning as the storm makes its closest approach to the region. If possible, have a plan if your power goes out and be prepared for it to be out for a bit especially if there are significant power outages.
